Welcome to the 1st International Symposium on Artificial Photosynthesis

Dear Colleagues,

On behalf of the Organizing Committee, we are pleased to announce that the 1st International Symposium on Artificial Photosynthesis will be held in Chengdu, China, on May 29–31, 2026.

The conversion of solar energy into fuels and value-added chemicals through artificial photosynthesis represents one of the most promising scientific pathways toward sustainable energy transition, carbon neutrality, and environmental protection. Addressing global challenges in energy supply, climate change, and resource sustainability requires continuous advances in photo- and electro-catalytic science, catalytic materials, mechanistic understanding, and scalable engineering technologies. International and interdisciplinary collaboration is essential to accelerate progress in this rapidly developing field.

The motivation of this symposium is to establish a high-level international academic forum dedicated to artificial photosynthesis, bringing together researchers from chemistry, materials science, physics, biology, and engineering. The meeting aims to promote in-depth scientific exchange, present frontier research advances, discuss key scientific and technological challenges, and identify future research directions in solar-to-chemical energy conversion and related technologies.

This symposium series also serves as a flagship event of the journal Artificial Photosynthesis, an international open-access journal focusing on fundamental understanding, functional mimicry, and practical utilization of sunlight-driven chemical energy conversion. As the first edition of this series, it is jointly organized by the University of Electronic Science and Technology of China, the Dalian Institute of Chemical Physics, CAS, Westlake University, and ACS Publications.

Through this symposium, we hope to stimulate innovative scientific ideas and foster long-term collaborations among individual researchers, institutions, and international partners. We expect the meeting to serve as a cross-disciplinary, high-level academic exchange platform that supports both fundamental discoveries and application-oriented innovations in artificial photosynthesis.
